PFLAG promotes the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and friends through: support, to cope with an adverse society; education, to enlighten an ill-informed public; and advocacy, to end discrimination and to secure equal civil rights. Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation and gender identity, and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity.
We, the parents, families and friends of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons, celebrate diversity and envision a society that embraces everyone, including those of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities. Only with respect, dignity and equality for all will we reach our full potential as human beings, individually and collectively. PFLAG welcomes the participation and support of all who share in, and hope to realize this vision.
“PFLAG” is Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. We are a national support, education and advocacy organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, their families, friends and allies. With 200,000 members and supporters, and local affiliates in more than 500 communities across the U.S. and abroad, PFLAG is the largest grassroots-based family organization of its kind. PFLAG Monterey County is a non-profit organization and is not affiliated with any religious or political institutions.
PFLAG Monterey County supports LGBT people, their families and friends locally by providing support group meetings and resources. PFLAG Monterey County also educates families and the community on sexual orientation, gender identity and LGBT issues. We educate our communities through a variety of projects, drawing on PFLAG National’s provisionof fair and accurate information about LGBT people, their loved ones, and the unique challenges they face. PFLAG Monterey County also advocates for equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people on the local and state levels while supporting PFLAG National’s similar efforts on the national level.
PFLAG provides an opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation, and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity. We welcome the participation and support of all who share in our Vision and Mission and who hope to realize our goals. If you are looking for a safe place to laugh, cry, question, or celebrate; to have frank discussions with gays and lesbians and their allies; to learn more about the effects of homophobia in our society; and to advocate for a more just society, PFLAG Monterey County is the place for you.
Our members come from all walks of life. We are straight, we are gay and we are bisexual. We are transgender. We are moms and dads, siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles, friends, children and allies. We come from large cities and small towns. We live in rural areas. We are people of color. We come from all economic backgrounds. We come from all faith traditions. We are disabled. We are youth and we are elderly. Our membership and our leadership are diverse, but what we have in common is our commitment to grow beyond false and harmful perceptions of LGBT people, to educate our communities, and to stand up for full equal rights and protections for LGBT people.
Everyone who shares PFLAG’s vision is welcome to join us in our work. Website Privacy Policy
We have created this statement to demonstrate our firm commitment to your privacy. We do not collect personally identifying information about you when you visit our site, unless you choose to provide such information to us. Providing such information is strictly voluntary. This policy is your guide to how we will handle information we learn about you from your visit to our website.
Reading or Downloading
We may collect and store only the following information about you: the name of the domain from which you access the Internet (for example, aol.com, if you are connecting from an America Online account, or princeton.edu if you are connecting from Princeton University’s domain), the date and time you access our site, and the Internet address of the website from which you linked to our site.
We use the information we collect to measure the number of visitors to the different sections of our site, and to help us make our site more useful to visitors.
Online Profile Updates
If you complete the Profile update form and share your personally identifying information, this information will be used only to provide you with more targeted content. We may use your contact information to send further information about our organization or to contact you when necessary. You may always opt-out of receiving future mailings. See the “Opt Out” section below for additional details.
Donations and Privacy
Information from on-line donors is stored in our member/donor database and may be used by PFLAG for subsequent donor contact, including confirmations and acknowledgments. E-mail addresses submitted for the mailing list are maintained separately and are not stored in the member/donor database. Encryption is used to ensure the security of donor’s personal and financial information during the transaction.
Use of Data by Third Parties
From time to time, PFLAG may send e-mail messages to members/donors on behalf of like-minded organizations or marketing partners. PFLAG rents or exchanges mail (street address) lists to like-minded organizations through bonded third-party vendors. List rental and exchange is a source of direct income, but more importantly provides reciprocal list access vital to increasing PFLAG’s donor base. Because PFLAG uses bonded third-party vendors, the organizations never directly receive personally-identifiable information.
Members and donors may request that their records be flagged as follows:
Do not exchange: To be excluded from any list rentals or exchanges with like-minded organizations or marketing partners or from any messages sent by PFLAG on behalf of such organizations.
No mail: To opt out of all communications from PFLAG. You can make this designation on your online profile in the PFLAG Online Community.
Sending us E-mail
You also may decide to send us personally identifying information, for example, in an electronic mail message containing a question or comment, or by filling out a web form that provides us this information. We use personally identifying information from e-mail primarily to respond to your requests. We may forward your e-mail to PFLAG employees who are better able to answer you questions. We may also use your e-mail to contact you in the future about our programs that may be of interest.
We want to be very clear: We will not obtain personally identifying information about you when you visit our site, unless you choose to provide such information to us. Providing such information is strictly voluntary. Except as might be required by law, we do not share any information we receive in this manner with any outside parties.
If you sign up for one of our e-mail lists, we will only send you the kinds of information you have requested. We won’t share your name and e-mail address with any outside parties.
Kids and Privacy
For children who visit our site, special rules apply. We do not request personal information about children, such as first and last name or street address and city. When kids send e-mail to us, their online contact information (e-mail address) is not used to re-contact them and is not maintained in retrievable form.
Opt-Out or Change Your Contact Information
Our site provides users the opportunity to opt-out of receiving communications from us through a special online form. You may choose to receive only specific communications or none at all. You may also update your contact information previously provided to us through another online form. You cannot remove yourself from our database, but you can prevent unwanted communication.
